My art recalls what it is to peel away the layers imposed by society and immerse myself into the rawness of nature through scuba diving. With a back roll off the boat, quiet aquatic zones far below the surface are reached. There, everything becomes physically and mentally weightless, as if in outer space. But this world does not feel foreign. It is familiar, like home. There is a feeling of being present and alive as I document marine life. In this place, one could feel full of hope, curiosity, and excitement.

Rendering the emotions that I feel during the discovery of these aquatic zones is realized through elevating the sense of illumination, transparency, and tonal unity. My work investigates mystical underwater atmospheres, motion, and textures. It also begins to explore the relationship between marine bioluminescence and outer space. When I look up to the stars, I am transported into the waters of the dark ocean, as if on a night dive, surrounded by bright light emitted from sea creatures.

Through my photo documentation, extended cinema, ceramics, and paintings, I have gained an intimate relationship and tremendous love for the ocean and therefore a concern for its future. The ocean is one of the last shreds of magical wilderness left on this planet. It is a place of beauty, discovery, and amazement.
